The Bowen TechniqueWhat is it?The Bowen Technique is a unique and remarkable remedial therapy that is non-intrusive, gentle and very effective. It aims to balance the person not just the symptoms and commonly helps a wide range of conditions:- - Musculo-skeletal pain such as back pain, frozen shoulders & necks, sporting & work-related injuries, knee problems, arthritic pain, fibromyalgia…..
- Respiratory problems including asthma, bronchitis, hay fever
- Migraine and headaches
- Digestive disorders such as constipation, colic, IBS, indigestion & heartburn
- Chronic fatigue syndrome (ME)
- General relaxation and body balancing
- Gynaecological conditions ; infertility (male and female), PMS, breast lumps
- Bowen may help during pre- and post-operative periods
- There is a growing body of evidence of it assisting in cases of cerebral palsy, and also autism, ADHD and dyspraxia
- Children and even small babies respond especially well to Bowen treatment and it is also ideal to keep the body comfortable and balanced during pregnancy.
Treatment is ‘hands on’ but there is no massage, no manipulation of hard tissue and no high velocity adjustments. The light, rolling movements are made across soft tissue – muscles, tendons etc – interspersed with periods of rest that allow your body to absorb the treatment and start to make the fine adjustments that will bring about change. However, despite its light approach it is very potent. The list above is by no means exhaustive - because your whole system is stimulated to balance and repair itself practically any problem can potentially be addressed and many people notice an improvement in general health as well as the particular problem for which they seek help. As the treatment is so gentle and adaptable it is safe and suitable for all ages from 0 to 90 and beyond and for all states of health. However, I will always advise people to consult their doctors if there is any doubt over whether or not to treat. (The Bowen Technique is not intended as a substitute for medical diagnosis or advice).
Bowen uses small 'moves' over soft tissue. It can help with problems such as Tennis Elbow, RSI and restricted or painful shoulders (frozen shoulder).

A Bowen treatment can be deeply relaxing "I was surprised to find how relaxed I was - more deeply than during a full body massage!"...gentle moves on the brow and face can help relieve headaches, stress and related issues
